UPDATE:Dallas Police Chief’s Son Kills A Father Of Two and Lancaster Policeman

LANCASTER — There are new developments in Sunday’s deadly shooting at a Lancaster apartment complex.

Three people were killed in the incident that has rocked the city of Lancaster and its police department, but has also now raised eyebrows at the Dallas Police Department.

Sources tell News 8 that David Brown Jr. — the son of the new Dallas police chief — was responsible for killing Lancaster police Officer Craig Shaw and another man, Jeremy McMillian.

Brown was shot and killed by another Lancaster officer.

Chief Brown has publicly conceded that his son had problems in the past.

Sources said Brown had been acting erratically — wearing boxers, sunglasses and no shoes — when he first approached McMillian. That’s when the shooting started around 6 p.m. Sunday.

McMillian was with his girlfriend, an infant, and another small child in their car, headed to his sister’s house for a Father’s Day dinner.

McMillian was described as a family man with two jobs and no criminal history — an innocent bystander who was tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Lancaster police Officer Craig Shaw was a father of two and a five-year veteran of the force. He was the first Lancaster officer ever killed in the line of duty.

Dallas police Chief David Brown is now dealing with not just a huge personal tragedy, but also a professional one. Those close to him say he is devastated by what happened.

His son had previously been in a little bit of trouble, but no one saw this coming.

David Brown Jr. has been arrested only once, in 2003, for suspicion of selling marijuana. That appears to be his only previous brush with the law.

Chief Brown has talked in the past about his son, and how he was proud of the way he overcame that arrest and grew as a person.

The younger Brown was also a father.

In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, he said people learn from their mistakes.

Chief Brown at this time is not speaking in public about what happened to his son. But he did issue a statement though the department saying he was deeply saddened by the loss of his son and his condolences go out to the family of the fallen officer.

A person who spoke with Chief Brown on Monday said Brown had no plans for any public statements.
